Toptal is seeking a Chief Technology Officer to drive execution for its product and engineering teams while embedding AI at the core of the company's technical architecture. The CTO will own the AI strategy, create agentic engineering best practices, and lead product engineering initiatives. This is a hands-on remote role requiring an executive builder mindset to scale systems and talent directly.
Conceive and own Toptal’s AI technology strategy and architecture, including model selection, fine-tuning, harness design, and orchestration. Set technical direction, conduct design reviews, participate in code reviews, and turn strategy into production-ready outcomes. Manage workforce planning, headcount, and hiring directly, while coaching engineers on agentic AI best practices.
Demonstrated ability to build and fine-tune foundation models from the ground up and construct best-in-class harnesses. Strong background in agentic engineering, retrieval, context engineering, and modular system architecture. Proven experience in hands-on technical leadership, resourcing, and high-urgency execution in remote environments.
Fluency in English (all resumes and communication must be submitted in English). Deep expertise in artificial intelligence and software engineering architecture at an executive level.
Fully remote workforce.
